Careful about El Calendario de Todos Santos
Just an advise for our Todos Santos readers - please be careful when subscribing to the publicly promoted RSS feed of the El Calendario de Todos Santos blog! We are strongly advising you to verify first if you can subscribe to this news feed.
As some of you might not know: RSS is commonly defined as really simple syndication. So, this means that any material contained in a feed is available for syndication. It means that the content contained in an RSS feed is in a format that is syndication friendly, if the copyright holder allows for syndication - announcing and - even encouraging - to subscribe to a feed WITHOUT laying out any restrictions clearly readable concerning a feed is allowing syndication. Maybe the webmaster at El Calendario is not real up to par in his accusations and we are happy to explain here in detail.
This as a general explanation on RSS, if you plan to take the offer to subscribe from this publisher you might mail him first at info@elcalendariodetodossantos.com to see if you have permission to do so. The rest of the story - you can fill yourself in on the situation by reading the e-mail sent to us, you can do so by clicking the thumbnail, plus you can read our reply to the false accusations.
Dear webmaster of the El Calendario Todos Santos
we received yesterday a mail which gives the above email address. The person sending the mail claims to be a “Howard Ekman”. If this mail is written by that person or anybody else in connection to that e-mail address we’d like to straighten some facts out here since there is obliviously some internet knowledge missing plus it’s a quite unprofessional mail with unjustified threats that clearly display an even deeper lack of knowledge on the topic.
We subscribe to a public RSS feed and display the results on a section called “Todos Santos Feeds”. We do NOT display content yet excerpts. No where do we claim this is our writing, content etc. PLUS every excerpt has a link to your content and your website. This is the common way of displaying RSS feeds, the author has his property declared in the feed and the links of course go to the originator. Claiming hijacking would be comparable to a hijacker taking an airplane, collecting ransom and then give it to the airline he hijacked the airplane from.
For what?? For subscribing to your feed?? Get a handle on yourself. Luckily there are professionals working at Google and they will evaluate the situation as it is, not as you see it….In fact looking around on your several websites I see multiple situations where I suggest to read the TOS of Adsense again…..
Again, we did not use ANY of your content, copyrighted or not but we linked with excerpts to YOUR blog. Of course we will remove it on your explicit wish and replace this section for now with Google international news.
We suggest strongly to mark and declare the RSS feeds that they are public yet not…. I know it’s kinda confusing for the readers - so it was to us! A public feed that is not public…. Hey, that’s also Baja, some people living here just get so remote from reality and common practice….
And for all the readers - that publication has some interesting reading to offer. You might want to check this all out, for example Pretty in Palms seems to be an interesting piece of content about Todos Santos.
However, we wish you and your publication the best for the future and will keep an eye on it to stay informed about what’s up at the other end of T.S.
